Press Release- PWD to Mark Start of Centennial Celebration with Aug. 5 Open House

Palmdale, CA – The Palmdale Water District is one year away from its 100th anniversary, and the celebration officially begins today with historical displays from 1918 placed at the District office and at the Palmdale City Library.  It will be followed by an Open House for the community on Aug. 5.

The Open House will take place from 12-4 p.m. at the District office, 2029 E. Avenue Q, in Palmdale.  There will be information booths, historical displays, equipment trucks and refreshments.  PWD’s top water savers, both residential and commercial, will be recognized with certificates and plaques at a welcome ceremony.  Attendees will have the opportunity to learn about the District’s history and how it has supplied water for nearly a century.

“We are proud and excited to share our extensive history in this valley with the public,”said PWD General Manager Dennis LaMoreaux.  “Providing high-quality water for the past 100 years is definitely an achievement.  We invite the community to come to the Open House and help us celebrate throughout the year.”

Other centennial celebration events include the District’s participation in the Antelope Valley Fair & Alfalfa Festival Parade on Aug. 19 in Lancaster.  The PWD float, which is being designed and built by employees, will play on the fair’s theme this year, “Cele-grape-tion” and highlight the 100th anniversary.

Starting in September, the District also will be giving monthly tours of Littlerock Dam and Reservoir.  Those interested in taking a tour must sign up by calling    661-441-5941 or emailing tours@palmdalewater.org

The historical displays at the District office and the library will be rotated out every month to coincide with the decades from 1918 to 2018.  In July 2018, there will be a grand 100th anniversary celebration that will bring together all the historical displays and documents showcased throughout the year.

Since 1918, the Palmdale Water District has provided high-quality water at a reasonable cost.  We pride ourselves on providing great customer service; advocating for local water issues that help our residents; educating the community on water conservation; and leading our region in researching and implementing emerging technologies that increase operational efficiency.  For more information about the Palmdale Water District, visit www.palmdalewater.org.
