Reading Your Statement

At first glance, understanding your monthly water bill can seem a challenging task for both new and existing Palmdale Water District customers.

Let's take a moment for a closer look at a typical statement so that you will have a better understanding of what each field on your water bill actually means to you.

  1. Account Name
  2. Service Address: The address the meter serves
  3. Account Number
  4. Previous Balance: Any amount owed from previous billing periods
  5. Current Charges: Total amount of charges from the current billing period as well as the date the bill becomes delinquent. Bills are due upon receipt.
  6. Total Due: The total account balance which includes any past due amounts.
  7. Name and Mailing Address on the Account
  8. PWD Remittance Address: The address to mail your payment to if you will be paying your bill via U.S. Mail. For additional payment options, click here.
  9. Return Payment Stub: Return this portion of the bill with your payment for proper credit to your account
  10. Statement Number and Date: The statement number is used by the PWD for internal routing; the date is when the bill was generated
  11. Billing Period: The period of time you are being billed for
  12. Days of Water Service The number of days in the billing period outlined in number 11
  13. Meter Size and Number: The size and identification number of the meter at the service address
  14. Current and Previous Read: The current and prior readings of your meter
  15. Water Usage: The amount of water used during this billing cycled. Water Usage is measured in billing units. One billing unit equals 100 cu.ft. or 748 gallons of water.
  16. Zone: The Service Zone for the service address. Billing is based on elevation components.
  17. Detail of Current Charges: The base charge is the minimum charge determined by the size of your meter. Additional usage is based on a five-tiered rate system for water used over the minimum charge.
  18. Usage Graph: This helpful graph, which is read from right to left, charts your monthly water usage history for the year.
  19. Bill Message: Any important information from the PWD will appear in this area.
  20. PWD Telephone Number, Business Hours, and Web Address
